An EMI calculator online is an essential financial tool that computes your Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) — the fixed payment amount you make each month toward a loan. Whether you're planning a home loan, car loan, personal loan, or business financing, this free EMI calculator helps you understand your monthly obligations, total interest cost, and repayment timeline.
Our EMI calculator with down payment support lets you factor in your initial payment, reducing the principal amount and lowering your monthly EMI. With instant results, amortization schedules, and interest breakdowns, you can compare loan offers from SBI, HDFC, ICICI, or any lender with confidence.
EMI calculations use a standard financial formula accepted by banks worldwide:
EMI = [P × R × (1+R)^N] / [(1+R)^N − 1]
Where:
P = Principal loan amount (after down payment)
R = Monthly interest rate = Annual Rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100
N = Loan tenure in months
Example: ₹10,00,000 loan @ 8.5% p.a. for 20 years → R = 8.5/12/100 = 0.007083, N = 240 months → EMI ≈ ₹8,678/month
Monthly Interest = Outstanding Balance × Monthly Rate
Monthly Principal = EMI − Monthly Interest
New Balance = Previous Balance − Monthly Principal
Early payments are mostly interest; later payments are mostly principal. This amortization pattern is why longer tenures increase total interest paid.
Input your loan amount, optional down payment, annual interest rate, and tenure (in years or months). Use realistic figures from your loan offer or bank quotation for accurate planning.
Click "Calculate EMI". The tool instantly computes your monthly payment, total interest, total repayment, and generates an amortization schedule showing how each payment splits between principal and interest.
Examine the results: Is the EMI affordable? How much total interest will you pay? Try different tenures or down payments to find the optimal loan structure for your budget.

While longer tenures lower monthly EMIs, they dramatically increase total interest paid. Use this calculator to find the shortest tenure you can comfortably afford — you'll save thousands in interest over the loan life.
Every rupee of down payment reduces your principal, lowering both EMI and total interest. Even a modest 10–20% down payment can significantly improve your loan affordability and reduce lender risk.
Use this EMI calculator to compare quotes from different banks. Small differences in interest rates (e.g., 8.5% vs 9.0%) compound significantly over long tenures — always calculate total cost, not just monthly EMI.
If you expect bonuses or windfalls, calculate how prepayments would reduce your tenure or EMI. Many lenders allow partial prepayments without penalty — this calculator helps you model those scenarios.
